Typically, online property searches between Boxing Day and the first working day of the New Year doubles...average traffic in January 2020 was 57% higher than in December 2019 on rightmove. 


Past experience backed by rightmove data shows that Boxing Day is the most popular time of year for property buyers to begin the hunt for their next home.

Quite what sparks the urge to abandon presents and look for a new property is never certain. Maybe it’s the desire to host a large Christmas but there is just not enough available space to seat everyone AND the dogs, or perhaps it is simply the unwrapping of a new iPad that prompts all the activity.

Whatever it is, rightmove data shows that once those keyboard fingers have warmed up there’s no stopping home hunters. And this year, with pent-up demand caused by the Stamp Duty holiday, it’s unlikely interest will dampen down.

This means that anyone planning to sell their home needs to be prepared; office parties and friends’ gatherings are off the calendar this year.
